Image generation
Image generation is AI creating pictures from a text description: you describe what you want, it draws it in seconds. Built into ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot; dedicated tools like Midjourney specialize in it.
Type “a watercolor poster of my trattoria’s summer menu, warm colors, space for text at the top” and get a usable draft in under a minute. That’s image generation, and for a bar owner who needs a Facebook post tonight, not a designer next month, it’s the most immediately practical AI skill there is.
What it’s great at: social posts, flyers and event banners, mood boards, illustrating ideas to show a real designer. What still trips it up: text inside images (logos, exact lettering can come out mangled), brand consistency across many images, and precise real-world accuracy.
Two honest notes. Check your tool’s terms before commercial use, since rules on rights differ per platform. And generated photos of real people or events can deceive; many platforms watermark or label AI images now, and posting fakes of real people can cross legal lines.
Where you’ll meet this
Directly in ChatGPT and Gemini (just ask for an image), in Copilot, and in dedicated tools like Midjourney. A well-built description makes most of the difference, and the same skills our prompt fixer teaches for text carry straight over.
