Get More From AI

Already using AI but feel you're scratching the surface? Answer a few questions and get a personal plan to level up: the right assistant for what you do, the plan that's actually worth it, and the settings and prompts that unlock more.

Results for United StatesChange

We use this only to recommend an assistant that actually works where you are, since some AI tools are blocked in certain countries. We detect it automatically; change it if it's wrong.

Question 1

Who are you setting this up for?

What it does

Where to click first, finally

Everyone says you should "just try AI", but nobody says where to click first. This wizard does. Answer four short questions (who it's for, what you want help with first, how much you've used AI, and which device you're on) and you get a concrete starting setup: the assistant that fits you, the free plan to begin with, and the exact steps. Install the official app, create your account, flip the one privacy switch that matters, try a first prompt built for your goal, and know where the free limits are before they catch you out.

Two things worth saying upfront. First, we always start you free: every recommendation defaults to the free tier, and paying is a separate decision for later. Second, the pick is never "the best AI"; it's the best fit for what you told us. All the major assistants are good; what differs is how well each one matches your first goal.

How to use it

Three steps to your starting setup

  1. Answer the four questions

There are no wrong answers, and you can go back or start over at any point.

  2. See why we picked what we picked

The reasons are shown in your own terms, so you can disagree and change an answer.

  3. Follow the numbered steps in order

Especially step three, the privacy switch. It takes thirty seconds and it's much easier to decide before your chats exist than after.

The method behind it

Built on the same maintained data

The wizard runs on the same data as our other tools: the capabilities matrix behind the AI chooser (which assistant is strong at writing, coding, office work, images) and the price list behind the plan picker (every plan in euros, straight from the vendors' own pages). An automated scan re-reads those sources every week; the "Last verified" date below only moves when we actually re-checked. Your answers are scored against that matrix by a small, transparent rule: your goal carries the most weight, and beginners get a nudge toward free plans you can genuinely live on. No vendor pays to appear, and no amount of money moves a ranking.

Honest limits: menus move

The setup steps name real menus, like "Settings → Data Controls", and vendors move things without warning. The paths here were correct as of the date below; if one has drifted, the setting almost always still exists, usually one menu away. Let us know and we'll fix it. The full process, sources included, is on our how we test page.

Frequent questions

Do I need to pay to start using AI? +

No. Every assistant the wizard recommends has a free plan, and for someone getting started the free plan is genuinely the right choice: you'll learn what AI is good at before a single euro leaves your pocket. The wizard always starts you free; when you begin hitting the limits regularly, our plan picker tells you honestly whether paying is worth it for your usage.

Which AI should a total beginner pick? +

There's no single 'best AI'. There's a best fit for what you want to do. For writing and general questions, ChatGPT and Gemini both have free plans you can really live on; for long documents Claude shines; if keeping your data with a European company matters, Le Chat by Mistral is the natural pick. The wizard weighs exactly these trade-offs from our maintained capabilities matrix and shows you why it picked what it picked.

Is my phone enough, or do I need a computer? +

Your phone is enough. Every major assistant has an official mobile app, and voice input makes phones a genuinely good way to use AI. The one thing to watch: install the official app only, and check the publisher name (OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Mistral AI) before tapping install, because the app stores carry look-alike apps that charge for what's free here.

What should I set immediately after signing up? +

The training toggle. On most free plans your chats can be used to train the vendor's models until you say otherwise. In ChatGPT it's Settings → Data Controls → 'Improve the model for everyone', in Gemini it's your Gemini Apps Activity, and Claude asks you directly at signup. The wizard gives you the exact path for your pick. Deciding this in minute one, before any real conversation, is the single best privacy habit to start with.

What if I get stuck along the way? +

Restart the wizard and answer differently; it's instant and nothing is saved. If a menu isn't where we said, vendors do move things around; the steps reflect our last verification date at the bottom of this page, and you can tell us so we fix it. And if a word like 'prompt' or 'training data' is the obstacle, our glossary explains every term in plain language.
